About Modelmatic

Modelmatic is a one person business started by Jon Irvine (that’s me), owner of a web design agency and father of three kids. I started it back in 2011!

Why I started it

Initially, I created Modelmatic because I found it difficult finding a good range of diecast cars for my eldest son. Back in 2011, all the best stuff seemed to be in the U.S. and getting it here was expensive.

As a web designer, I also wanted to learn more about the other side of e-commerce - SEO, Pay per click, fulfillments, logistics and importing, etc.

What am I selling?

Initially I was focused on 1:64 scale only, but over the years I’ve expanded this with some of the brands I buy. I occasionally see something non-1:64 I can’t resist from newer brands, and get a few too.

Hot Wheels were one of the first brands I sold (and still do). I had tons of very early Retro Entertainment releases, and have sold Car Culture from the start.

Very early on I found Greenlight Collectibles (thanks to the very early “Dazed & Confused” Hollywood models they made), and started importing their models.

In the last few years I’ve started selling more premium brands, like Tarmac Works and Inno64.

I’m always on the lookout for newer brands, but sadly space is an issue.

Where I’m located

I’m based in York, UK. When I started, I had a little office on the famous Shambles, but two flights of stairs and a million tourists made getting parcels to the nearest post office more and more difficult.

I’m now based on an industrial estate, but still feel I’m running out of space.
